What is the JOY initiative?

A young person and an elderly are connected to have a weekly friendly chat. The sessions are structured with questions and prompts ensuring individuals build a strong friendship.

Why?

The JOY initiative was created in response to COVID-19 and the mental health effects on the youth and elderly population. To address the growing level of lonliness and anxiety, the JOY project brings together people of different generations and backgrounds. 

 

The aim is to promote open dialogue that fosters a united vision between participants and facilitates the sharing of knowledge and wisdom from experience.

How does it work?

Two individuals, a youth and an older person, are connected to have an informal yet meaningful conversation to explore themes of significance in a spirit of fellowship. and friendship. This can be through a phone call or video call – just so that you have a friendly voice to hear from!

The first step is to fill in our form to let us know more about you and your interests. After we have received that, our team will work to match you with a suitable partner and we will be in touch once we have matched you.

We have just launched this programme and we are really excited for you to start your conversations. We are aiming to match pairs based on common interests so we will be in touch as soon as we have found a suitable match. Once you have a partner, we will send you and introductory pack to let you know the next steps and one of our team will be in touch to guide you through the process.

A video call is not necessary and would also depend on how comfortable your partner is with a video call. Of course, if you are both happy to video call we would be more than happy for you to do so. 

We believe that regular communication will help you and your partner to get to know once another so we would need you to commit to one call per week.
